Brush up before you play, or read their stories after.

Nigerian gospel music has grown from church choir stands into a global force, and the fans who sing every word tend to think they know it all. This quiz puts that confidence to the test with questions on the voices, the albums and the career moments that shaped the scene. Ten questions, one score, and a title to share with the friend who claims they're the bigger worshipper.

What This Gospel Quiz Covers

The quiz pulls ten random questions from a much bigger bank each time you play. That means the mix of easy, medium and hard questions changes with every round, so a repeat play never feels like the same quiz twice. You'll meet questions about hit songs, albums, awards, school days and a few personal details that only real fans track.

When you finish, you get a score plus a fun title that sums up how deep your gospel knowledge runs. You can share the result or send a challenge to friends and see who comes out on top. It's quick, so most people end up playing more than once to chase a better score.

The Stars Behind the Questions

The question bank leans on the artists who built modern Nigerian gospel. Sinach is a natural starting point, having moved from administrative staff and choir member at Christ Embassy to one of the most sung songwriters in contemporary Christian music. Her debut album "Chapter One" arrived in 2008 and carried "This Is Your Season," which won Song of the Year that same year.

Mercy Chinwo brings a different kind of story. The Port Harcourt native joined her church children's choir at six, later sang on projects by Sammie Okposo, Joe Praize, Buchi and Chris Morgan, and eventually set up GNT Nation with her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa. Her 2020 album "Satisfied" gave churches favourites like "Baby Song" and "Na You Dey Reign."

Nathaniel Bassey came into gospel from jazz, having led the Steve Rhodes Orchestra as trumpeter before his debut album "Elohim" in 2008. Frank Edwards is the producer and instrumentalist behind "Under The Canopy" and "Okaka," and his 2016 album "Frankincense" featured Don Moen and Micah Stampley. Both men learned music at home, with fathers who put instruments in their hands early.

Dunsin Oyekan, often called The Eagle, mastered the bass guitar by age ten and now runs the Code Red Worship Experience and the Healing Room Worship Event. Minister GUC is known for long, immersive worship songs that can run anywhere from seven to seventeen minutes, with ministry work spanning Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia and the UK. Judikay, born Judith Kanayo in Sango Otta, has three albums to her name, and her song "Mudiana" went viral on TikTok in Kenya.

Two more names round out the pack. Victoria Orenze built her reputation on prophetic, Spirit-led worship, with albums like "Return Rev. 2:4," "Truth in Sounds" and "Gratitude (Reflections)." Lawrence Oyor is the chant minister behind "Bowl of Fire" and co-founder of Davidic Minstrels with his twin brother Godswill.

Tips to Score Well on the Gospel Quiz

Pay attention to album titles, not just song titles. A lot of gospel fans can hum every track but freeze when asked which project a hit came from, and the quiz likes that gap. Knowing which year a major album dropped helps too.

Remember that many of these artists have lives outside music. Some studied courses that have nothing to do with worship, some acted in films, and a few came up through reality TV or as backup singers. Those career detours make good question material.

Labels and record deals matter as well. Several of the biggest names in Nigerian gospel passed through the same imprints before going independent, and knowing who signed with whom, and who founded what, will save you points on the harder questions.
