Wizkid – Joro, a sweet afrobeat or another vociferous meaningless music

Three days ago, Nigerian international act, Wizkid aka Starboy dropped another single title “Joro” in addy to his “Made In Lagos” album. We will be rating and reviewing the piece of musical art and let you be the judge on whether Joro is a sweet afrobeat or another vociferous meaningless music by wizkid.

Meaning of Joro

Let’s decipher what “Joro” means.  Joro is not an English, French or Latin word – we’ve checked various language’s respective dictionaries. However, according to WIzkid who coined Joro, he said in an interview with Okay Africa that Joro means “slang that is used to call the attention of a girl to catch some fun”. So practically, Joro means – Come and have fun. Wizkid’s Joro music video backed the definition of  Joro which Starboy gave in the interview.

It was inspired by love. It’s talking about not wanting to lose love. “Joro” means enjoyment, so on the chorus it means at the end of the day, “if I can be with you, we can enjoy ourselves.
Wizkid said in the interview

In Joro’s music video, a lady, mannered and nice-looking suddenly loses control of herself and dances spontaneously to music, after a red flashlight shimmer. We don’t know the meaning of the red-flash light but we see it as a summon to lose yourself and be free careless of where you are. Although the concept was a fetish one, at least it describes what Joro means.

Wizkid - Joro, a sweet afrobeat or another vociferous meaningless music

A gorgeous lady walking on the street stops turns back and starts dancing uncontrollably after a red light glows at her. If you don’t understand what this means, here it is. The message Wizkid wants to send to his fans is – be free to express yourself anytime anywhere, have fun to your satisfaction.

But there is a fetish side to the video produced by Pheelz. The lady in the video starts dancing only after a red light flashes at her. It looked like she was remotely controlled, she couldn’t get it together even in the saloon. That’s rough self-expression. And Wizkid dances and sings in the middle of a room with lighted candles all around with red top to bottom drop-downs. Fetish!!!.

The music was produced by Northboi and we love the soft tunes, its soothing. Critics says Joro is empty, lacking lyrics and meaning. Is that correct? Well, all we can say it Wizkid is known to sing in a few words, just like he did with Ghetto love. Whether you use many words or a few, the idea is to have the lyrics blend in with your song and pass a message.

Wizkid’s Joro lyrics are full of romantic words and sensual pleasure expression, which Wizkid’s field of songwriting expertise.
