Lola Simone Rock (23) and Zahra Savannah Rock (21) are the only children of the famous comedian Chris Rock and his former wife, Malaak Compton-Rock. Chris Rock’s two daughters have something increasingly rare in Hollywood: privacy.

They have carved out lives far removed from their father’s comedy empire, opting instead to focus on European culinary schools and USC lecture halls, rather than red carpets and reality TV.

The sisters grew up in Alpine, New Jersey, surrounded by wealth and philanthropy but shielded from the relentless media spotlight. Their childhood wasn’t typical, though it was probably as normal as possible, considering their dad was one of the world’s most famous comedians. Both young women watched their parents’ nearly 20-year marriage end in 2016, lived through the aftermath of their father’s very public infidelity, and the shocking 2022 Oscars slap incident that left their dad reeling.

Born on June 28, 2002, in New York City, Lola Simone Rock is the elder of Chris Rock’s two daughters. She spent her formative years in Alpine, New Jersey.

Lola was 14 when her parents’ nearly 20-year marriage ended in August 2016, following her father’s admitted infidelity with multiple women. Despite the painful circumstances, both parents have maintained what friends describe as an exemplary co-parenting relationship. Chris purchased a home around the corner from the family residence rather than fleeing to Manhattan.

Before relocating to Paris, Lola graduated from the Bergen Passaic chapter of Jack & Jill of America in June 2020. That autumn, she moved to the French capital to pursue her undergraduate education at a European university.

Lola graduated with a degree in journalism, having spent her college years delving into the city’s culture and cuisine.

But graduation wasn’t the end of her stay in Paris. Lola decided to stay in the city to attend Le Cordon Bleu, the legendary culinary institute.

Her father prominently featured Lola in his March 2023 Netflix special “Selective Outrage,” revealing he’d actually requested her expulsion after she was caught drinking during a school trip to Portugal. The tough-love approach was about teaching consequences, and it apparently had an effect. Lola went on to attend prestigious programs and develop into what her mother calls “an old soul” and “deep thinker” who “beats to her own drummer.”

Lola’s most recent confirmed public appearance was in October 2023, when she attended the Chanel Spring/Summer 2024 presentation at Paris Fashion Week alongside her father. Still, she notably skipped major 2025 family events that her sister attended, including the SNL 50th Anniversary Special and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Chris Rock has been open about how fatherhood changed him, stating that “everything I’ve done since I’ve had kids is better than the stuff I did before I had kids.” He showers them with what he calls “ridiculous attention” so that future romantic attention “won’t be a big deal to them,” attempting to provide the emotional foundation he believes protects young women from unhealthy relationships.

Lola’s culinary pursuits and cultural explorations in Paris suggest she’s building an identity completely independent of her father’s comedy legacy. Whether she’ll open a restaurant, write about food, or pursue something entirely different remains to be seen.

Born on May 22, 2004, in New York City, Zahra Savannah Rock is the younger daughter of Chris Rock. Like her sister, she grew up in Alpine, New Jersey, and is a student of the University of Southern California.

Her mum, Malaak, a Howard University graduate with a master’s in Global Development and Social Justice, founded StyleWorks, a nonprofit salon serving women transitioning from welfare to work, and the AngelRock Project, which promotes educational initiatives in underserved communities. This dedication to social causes clearly influenced Zahra’s later activism.

Zahra was just 12 when her parents divorced in August 2016. The former couple reunited to celebrate Zahra’s 16th birthday in May 2020 with a drive-by parade.

Zahra presents a fascinating contrast to her sister’s intense privacy. Currently pursuing her undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California, with an expected graduation in 2026, the 21-year-old has achieved Dean’s List status while engaging in select but meaningful social activism. She’s particularly passionate about abortion rights and reproductive justice, using her Instagram platform, which has approximately 13,000 followers, to advocate for causes she believes in.

Before college, Zahra excelled as a competitive equestrian. She placed first in a medal round at the Wellington Equestrian Festival in July 2020 with her horse, Colourful. Her mother documented the competition at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Centre. Her riding days essentially concluded as she moved to university life in 2022, but the athletic background is the privileged upbringing Chris Rock has joked about in his comedy.

Unlike Lola, Zahra has maintained more visibility alongside her father in recent years. She accompanied Chris to the February 2025 SNL 50th Anniversary Special and the March 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, his first public appearance related to the Oscars since the 2022 incident in which Will Smith slapped him on stage.

The pair also attended USC basketball games together and the F1 Grand Prix of Monaco in May 2023.

Zahra first gained unexpected viral fame at age 11 during the 2016 Oscars. Her father, hosting the ceremony, made a surprise pitch for attendees to buy her Girl Scout cookies. The stunt raised approximately $65,243 for the Girl Scouts, creating one of that ceremony’s most memorable moments and giving America an early glimpse of the Rock’s daughters. It was adorable then, and it’s interesting to see how she’s matured since that moment.

Zahra’s academic excellence at USC, combined with her selective advocacy work, positions her for potential careers in law, policy, or nonprofit work, following more in her mother’s footsteps than her father’s.
