Conor Hickey Was His Son’s Best Friend
Angus Cloud struggled to cope with his father’s death on May 18, 2023. He shared an emotional post on Instagram on July 14, 2023, expressing how much he missed his father. He captioned the post, “Miss you, breh.” Comments from his grieving fans that followed the post read, “They’re together now,” “And now we miss you too,” “Rest in peace to both.”
A statement from Angus’ family about his death, reads in part;
“The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend. Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.”
He Was a Former Captain of Ashbourne RFC
Conor Hickey was not only Angus’ father but also a significant figure in rugby. He was a former captain of Ashbourne Rugby Football Club (RFC) in 1982/83 and was well-regarded as a legend and a “force of nature in the backrow”. He was also part of the O’Connell Cup-winning team in 1979.
Conor Worked As A University Professor
Conor Hickey and his wife both worked as university professors.
He Moved To California in the 1980s.
After a successful rugby career in Ashbourne, Conor moved to California in the 1980s. He initially settled in Los Angeles but eventually found his home in the Bay Area of San Francisco.
