Being born into Hollywood royalty doesn’t guarantee success, but Annie Costner has carved out her own impressive path. The eldest daughter of Kevin Costner isn’t just riding on her father’s coattails. She has a career as a documentary filmmaker, real estate professional, and environmental activist.

At 41, Annie balances three demanding careers while raising two young children. Her production company, Sound Off Films, collaborates with major clients such as Netflix, HBO, and ESPN. She’s also crushing it in California’s competitive real estate market.

Biography

Anne Clayton Costner was born on April 15, 1984, in Los Angeles, California. Her parents are legendary actor Kevin Costner and his first wife, Cindy Silva.

Annie’s early years included memorable moments, such as her father serenading her while wearing Elvis’s suit on her 16th birthday. Despite Kevin’s demanding career, he always made time for his kids. Annie later shared that he preferred hanging out with his children over rubbing elbows with other Hollywood stars.

She attended Santa Monica High School before heading to Brown University, where she graduated in 2006 with a degree in Latin American Studies.

Her siblings include Lily McCall, Joe Tedrick, Liam, Cayden Wyatt, Hayes Logan, and Grace Costner. She’s also the stepdaughter of Christine Baumgartner, though Kevin and Christine divorced in 2023 after 18 years of marriage.

Career

Annie’s entertainment career started early. Really early. At just six years old, she made her acting debut in her father’s Oscar-winning film Dances with Wolves (1990), playing young Christine.

She continued acting throughout her childhood, appearing exclusively in her father’s films. Her credits include an uncredited role as an Atoll Girl in Waterworld (1995), a part in The Baby-Sitters Club (1995), and the character Ponytail in The Postman (1997). She retired from acting at 13 to focus on her education, with a brief return in 2010 for the short film “Lazy Teenage Superheroes.”

The real turning point came in 2010 when Annie moved to Boulder, Colorado. She joined director Louie Psihoyos (the man behind The Cove) to work on Racing Extinction, an Emmy-nominated environmental documentary about species extinction and climate change.

During production, she met Adrienne Hall, and the two discovered they shared a passion for impactful storytelling. In May 2014, they co-founded Sound Off Films, a boutique production company dedicated to documentary work with social and environmental impact. The company is based in Ventura, California, with operations in Santa Monica.

Annie made her directorial debut with “The Discarded: A Tale of Two Rios” (2016), an 18-minute documentary that she co-directed with Carla Dauden. The film explored environmental and social issues in Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 Summer Olympics, following locals as they fought for better conditions by cleaning up Guanabara Bay. It earned a Best Documentary Short Film nomination at the 2017 Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Sound Off Films has produced an impressive portfolio. The company created an ESPN 30 for 30 short titled “Bump, Spike” (2017) about volleyball, a behind-the-scenes documentary covering Katy Perry’s Witness Tour (2017-2018). It produced branded content for prominent clients such as Nike, Lyft, Google, Microsoft, and Salesforce.

One of their most innovative projects? Minecraft: Rooted Together – The Mangrove Restoration Project (2023), commissioned by Xbox and Mojang Studios. This documentary about mangrove conservation was filmed in Miami, Kenya, and the Philippines, then recreated as a 50-minute in-game Minecraft experience. The project raised over $200,000 for The Nature Conservancy and earned multiple 2023 Anthem Award nominations.

Annie doesn’t only make documentaries. Since July 2019, she’s worked as a licensed real estate agent (California DRE# 2093166) with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. She specialises in coastal California properties in the Ojai, Ventura, and Santa Barbara areas.

Beyond her documentary work, she co-founded The Chain, a nonprofit promoting eco-friendly and sustainable living practices. In 2015, she partnered with Mia Hanak to create Mosaic of Change, a digital visual communication platform launched at UNESCO’s 70th Anniversary.

On July 16, 2016, Annie married Dr Daniel Arturo Cox (known as Dr Danny Cox), a California-based physician specialising in internal medicine, hospice, and palliative care at Ventura County Medical Centre. The outdoor ceremony took place at Kevin Costner’s private estate in Carpinteria, near Santa Barbara.

Annie wore a stunning Vicenta gown from Atelier Pronovias’ 2016 collection featuring rebrodé lace appliqué and a mermaid skirt. Kevin walked his daughter down the aisle wearing a tan suit with a navy tie.

The couple has two children: Vincent Leo Cox, born April 7, 2018, and Vida Valle Cox, born January 28, 2020. These are Kevin Costner’s first grandchildren, making Annie the first of his seven children to become a parent.

As of 2025, Annie and Dr Cox have been happily married for nearly nine years after their wedding. Their relationship continues strong despite the demands of two busy careers and raising young children.

In a candid Instagram post on her 41st birthday (April 15, 2025), Annie revealed she’d taken “a couple years off to take care of our kids” and had been battling “mid-life demons” at 40. A solo trip to Paris in 2024 gave her “the spark” to reignite her life. She even got a tattoo reading “love, Mom” during the trip. Upon returning to work, she shared that “everything has burst wide open” for her.

Net Worth

Annie Costner’s estimated net worth stands at $3 million as of 2025.

Her income streams are diverse. She earns commissions from real estate sales through Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, where the average base salary for agents at similar luxury firms ranges from $90,000 to over $100,000 annually. However, successful agents in California’s coastal markets can earn substantially more through commissions.

Sound Off Films makes a significant contribution to her wealth. The production company works with major clients including Netflix, HBO, ESPN, Meta, and Xbox. While the company generates less than $5 million in annual revenue according to some sources, its work with high-profile brands and award-winning projects provides steady income.

Annie also receives residuals from her early acting career and continues earning through her production credits on documentaries and branded content. Her husband, Dr Danny Cox, has an estimated net worth of $2 million from his medical career, adding to their combined household wealth.
