The youngest of three talented football-playing siblings, Darez has always been destined for greatness. His father, Aron, passed away at 39 in January 2008 when Darez was just 12 years old, leaving his mother, Stephanie, to raise him and his brothers, Stefon and Trevon, along with two half-siblings, Aron Jr. and sister Porche Green.
For most of his life, Darez grew up under the tutelage of Stefan Diggs as his father gave in to congestive heart failure in 2008. After the sad and direful event, Stefan assumed the role of a parental figure at 14; he soon began shouldering his family’s needs alongside his mother, Stephanie.
Stefon, the oldest of the Diggs brothers, was born on November 29, 1993, and is a wide receiver for the NFL’s Buffalo Bills. The youngest, Trevon, was born on September 20, 1998, and played for the Dallas Cowboys. Both brothers have served as role models and unofficial coaches for Darez throughout his football journey.
The untimely passing of his father has undoubtedly shaped Darez Diggs’s outlook on life and his approach to his football career. Despite his challenges, Darez has shown incredible resilience and determination.
Education
Darez, though shouldered by only his mother, attended one of the most prestigious schools in the United state of America, after which he furthered his education in high school by attending Friendship Academy, where he obtained a certificate. He became one of the youngest players adorned with the Morgan state bears’ official jersey (no. 35). Darez’s college football career began with the Morgan State Bears in 2013 as a defensive back and wide receiver.
He played hand in hand with the infamous Orlando Jhonson (running back), Ricky Fisk (quarter), and Broderick Gager(wide receiver). In 2015, after rejecting offers from the West Virginia Mountains and Buffalo Bills, Darez committed to the University of Alabama Blazers (UAB). He joined the 2016 recruiting class and played at UAB in 2018.
Ranked as the 123rd national talent and 5th best football prospect in Washington DC for the 2016 class, Darez quickly made a name for himself at UAB. While he is yet to be drafted by an NFL team, his impressive college career and outstanding performances in the XFL have likely caught the attention of NFL scouts.
