Biography
Matthew Edward Lowe entered the world on 24th September 1993, born to one of Hollywood’s most enduring couples. His father, Rob Lowe, had already established himself as a leading man in films like The Outsiders and St. Elmo’s Fire, whilst his mother, Sheryl Berkoff, was making her mark as a talented makeup artist in the industry.
Growing up wasn’t your typical Hollywood childhood, though. Rob and Sheryl made the conscious decision to relocate their family from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara when Matthew was young. This move proved pivotal in shaping Matthew’s grounded perspective on life.
“You have to be willing to make some sacrifices,” Rob Lowe once explained about raising his children. “I moved my kids out of Los Angeles immediately. Not everybody is in show business where my kids grew up, and they see that the world is so much bigger than that.”
Matthew stands at 5 feet 8 inches (173 cm) tall and maintains a healthy weight of approximately 159 pounds (72 kg).
Duke University Years (2012-2016)
Matthew’s academic journey began in earnest when he enrolled at Duke University in 2012. There, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, immersing himself in the rich academic culture of one of America’s most prestigious institutions. During his time at Duke, Matthew wasn’t just hitting the books – he was also an active member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity and began forming relationships that would prove significant in his personal life.
Legal Studies at Loyola Marymount (2016-2019)
Following his undergraduate success, Matthew set his sights on law school. He enrolled at Loyola Marymount University Law School in Los Angeles, where he distinguished himself as Section Representative for Entertainment Law. His dedication to his legal studies culminated on 6th December 2019, when he proudly shared his achievement of becoming a qualified lawyer on Instagram.
Career
Matthew’s legal career began whilst still in law school, where he served as a Summer Law Clerk at Russ, August & Kabat from January to July 2018. This experience provided him with invaluable hands-on experience in the legal field and helped shape his understanding of business law.
Venture Capital and Investment
Following his legal qualification, Matthew quickly pivoted towards the business world. His career trajectory has been nothing short of impressive:
September 2019: Founded LH Capital, serving as the family office for the Lowe and Hermes families.
July 2020 – September 2021: Served as Head of US Talent at Komi, a centralised digital hub for talent that consolidates commerce projects and monetises new digital products.
March 2021 – Present: Part-time advisor at Proximity.
September 2021 – Present: Currently serves as Vice President of Business Development at Miroma Ventures.
Television and Entertainment
Despite pursuing law and business, Matthew hasn’t completely stepped away from the entertainment world that surrounds his family.
The Lowe Files (2017)
Matthew’s most significant television appearance came in The Lowe Files, a supernatural documentary series that aired on A&E. The show followed Matthew, his father Rob, and younger brother John Owen as they travelled across America investigating allegedly supernatural locations and unsolved mysteries.
“I’m in law school, my brother is in school and my dad is always working, so the three of us don’t get to be together that often,” Matthew shared about the experience. “It really just felt like a fun trip we were on, and cameras just happened to be around.”
The series provided viewers with an intimate look at the Lowe family dynamic while exploring fascinating mysteries across the United States.
Other Media Appearances
Matthew has made various appearances on television shows, including:
- Entertainment Tonight (2016-2023)
- Celebrity Family Feud (2021)
- The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (2017)
- The Ellen DeGeneres Show (2017)
- Literally! with Rob Lowe podcast (2020, 2024)
Beyond law and business, Matthew has cultivated a passion for photography and fishing, which he featured several times on his Instagram account. His photography often focuses on outdoor adventures and lifestyle shots that reflect his love for nature and exploration.
Family
Matthew’s parents have provided an excellent example of a stable Hollywood marriage. Rob and Sheryl first met on a blind date in 1983, but reconnected in 1989 when Sheryl worked as the makeup artist on Rob’s film Bad Influence. They married on 22nd July 1991 and have been together for over three decades.
The couple is strong advocates for mental health awareness and regularly attends therapy together as a proactive measure. They’ve also instilled strong values in their children, emphasising the importance of hard work, education, and maintaining perspective despite their Hollywood connections.
Matthew shares a close bond with his younger brother John Owen, born in 1995. John has followed a more direct path into entertainment, working as a writer, producer, and actor. He’s the co-creator, co-executive producer, and co-writer of the Netflix comedy series Unstable, in which he stars alongside their father.

Matthew’s personal life has seen some significant developments recently. He was previously in a long-term relationship with Christina Tribull, whom he met whilst both were students at Duke University in 2015. Christina, who holds a marketing degree from Duke, works in Polo Ralph Lauren’s Global Marketing department in New York City.
However, recent reports indicate that Matthew has moved on from this relationship. According to sources, Matthew proposed to Emily Marcus on 3rd July 2025, marking an exciting new chapter in his personal life.

As Vice President of Business Development at a venture capital firm and founder of his own family office, Matthew has positioned himself well financially. His father, Rob Lowe, has an estimated net worth of $100 million, which certainly provides context for the family’s financial stability, but Matthew has clearly established his own independent income streams.
