It’s no doubt that Nigerian artists are amazing and thrive well in the music industry. The first half of 2020 has been blessed with these amazing sounds. Regardless of the coronavirus, the Nigerian music industry has been with us hand in hand. What else can I say but thank you?
Songs and albums from breakout stars to the OG’s in the game. I’m giving out 8 of my favorite Nigerian songs of the first half of 2020 and just why they made it to my list.

Rema – Beamer ft Rvssian
One of my favorite Nigerian songs of the year 2020 is definitely Beamer because of its unique sound. Even the video makes it one of the best. Here we see Rema display his bad-boy aura and the backing vocals from the ladies make it easily catchy. Even if you don’t know the entire words of the song, the chorus sticks pretty well. You can definitely bring your swag on with this. This is why it makes it to my favorite Nigerian song of 2020.

Oxlade – AWAY
After various collaborations, the singer literally blew us away with his debut single. AWAY showcasing the unique vocals of the fast-rising star. His single is quite catchy as well as melodious and it’s no surprise it won the hearts of Nigerians. Looking forward to more music from him.

Falz- Bop Daddy ft Ms. Banks
I like to refer to Bop daddy as a colorful song. When you hear it, you automatically think of dress-ups. It’s hard to pin this on either the TikTok viral challenge or the fact the video itself is a colorful one. Falz features Ms. Banks on this one and we absolutely loved it. Ms. Banks is one rap artist I hope makes it into the Nigerian music properly.

Burna Boy – Odogwu
These vibrantly produced sounds make Odogwu one of the best Burna boy songs out there. As we all know, Odogwu is an Igbo term for Hero. Burna boy takes us through a little of his success. The video brings to life the richness of the Igbo culture. [wpdiscuz-feedback id=”1giqlp8vla” question=”Any thoughts on this?” opened=”0″]Do you think Burna Boy’s Odugwu competes with any Igbo-themed song by Phyno or Zoro?[/wpdiscuz-feedback]

Blaqbones – Haba
From the self-acclaimed best rapper in Africa, Haba is a nice song you sit back and enjoy. Blaqbones also became popular on Twitter for being a great music promoter by making “Stream Haba” a popular term. Almost everyone now gets the term stream Haba. So I’m asking you, why haven’t you Streamed Haba yet?

Omah Lay – Bad Influence
This has definitely been a great year for Omah Lay. You could honestly say we didn’t see him coming. His song, YOU for one, is considered pretty romantic, it’s a perfect song for that first date. With lots of streams on Spotify and his songs being top in charts, he’s taking over. From Portharcourt, a place filled with lots of raw talents, we hope to see more amazing musicians step into the spotlight as well. Almost all Omah Lays songs are my favorite Nigerian songs of 2020.
-
Mayorkun – Of Lagos
Although Geng seems to be one of the best Nigerian songs out there, “Of Lagos” is easily my best pick. You should know it is not filled with a lot of words but you can’t help but be proud of Mayorkun. We are so proud of how far he’s come and can’t thank Davido enough. Mayorkun puts in the work and the Mayor of Lagos doesn’t go unnoticed. Basically, he produces some of the favorite Nigerian songs of 2020.

Simi – Duduke
Duduke makes it to the list because of how far it went and what meaning it held. Simi surely has the voice of an angel and found the perfect way to show us her baby bump. Duduke was even backed up with a challenge. That’s when you know Nigerians didn’t come to play. We can feel the love all around this song. And I’m also sure her baby would have a loving home. As well as a soft voice for the late-night lullabies. it definitely makes it to my favorite Nigerian songs of 2020
Conclusion
So many Nigerian artists have made a name for themselves one way or another. But we can definitely attest to the fact they also put in work. What song did you hope made the list? what are your favorite Nigerian songs of 2020 so far?
