Biography
Born in 1968 in Miami, Florida, Jeffrey Miller Soffer is the son of Donald and Carol Soffer. His sister, Jackie, holds the position of CEO at Turnberry Associates. Within the Soffer family, Donald, Jeffrey’s father, has been married five times, resulting in Jeffrey having five half-siblings: Marsha, Jill, Brooke, Abigail, and Rock.
Jeffrey’s early involvement in the world of business began at the age of 17 when he joined his father’s ventures. Despite starting college, he found his passion outside academics and decided to drop out. In 1986, he took a bold entrepreneurial step by establishing a boat dealership named Champion Marine. This move marked the initiation of Jeffrey Soffer’s independent journey in the business world.
Career
Donald Soffer, in 1967, established Turnberry Associates and acquired a 785-acre parcel of undeveloped land in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Through strategic development, Soffer transformed the area by constructing a mall, condominiums, and office buildings, leading to the incorporation of Aventura in 1995. The Aventura Mall, built in 1983, became one of the nation’s top-grossing shopping centers and ranked as the fifth-largest mall in the United States.
In 1987, Jeffrey Soffer joined Turnberry Associates following the sale of Champion Marine. Taking charge of new condo developments, he introduced the concept of high-rise condos in Las Vegas in 1997. His first project, Turnberry Place, achieved remarkable success, generating over $1 billion in sales.
In 2005, Soffer acquired the Fontainebleau Hotel for $325 million and embarked on a significant redevelopment project, resulting in the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. The ambitious $1 billion renovation included the addition of 500+ rooms, a 40,000-square-foot spa, and space for 11 nightclubs and restaurants. The grand reopening in 2008 featured a lavish $5 million celebration, including a Victoria’s Secret fashion show and a Mariah Carey concert.
Jeffrey Soffer sold a 50% stake to Dubai-based Nakheel Leisure for $375 million to finance the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. However, funding from lenders ceased when the resort/casino/theater was 70% completed. In response, Soffer filed a lawsuit against lenders to secure the remaining promised loan funds while dealing with legal actions from title companies that had insured the loans.

Facing a $100 million lawsuit from Valdez’s widow, who alleged reckless piloting without a valid license, Jeffrey saw the case dismissed two years later.
