The family moved around a bit, living in Baltimore, Maryland, for a while before returning to Charlotte when the boys were teenagers.

During the 1980s, Joel and his brother were part of a group called Little Cedric and the Hailey Singers, which also included their father.

The group released albums like “I’m Alright Now” (1983), “Jesus Saves” (1984), and “God’s Blessing” (1985). “Jesus Saves” reached #4 on the “Billboard” Gospel Albums chart, while “God’s Blessing” peaked at #22.

It reached #18 on the “Billboard” 200 chart and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Singles like “Forever My Lady,” “Stay,” and “Come and Talk to Me” hit #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, with “Come and Talk to Me” earning a Gold certification.

It included the Gold-certified single “Cry for You,” which topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Their third album, “The Show, the After Party, the Hotel” (1995), reached #2 on the “Billboard” 200 chart and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

After their successful third album, “The Show, the After Party, the Hotel,” which also reached #4 on the UK Albums Chart, Jodeci produced hit singles like “Freek’n You,” “Love U 4 Life,” and “Get On Up,” all landing as top 10 hits on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Jodeci decided to take a break after this album. They reunited in 2014 and released “The Past, The Present, The Future” in 2015. This album made its mark by reaching #23 on the “Billboard” 200 chart and #2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

K-Ci & JoJo

In 1996, the Hailey brothers formed the R&B duo K-Ci & JoJo, and their debut album, “Love Always,” came out in 1997.

This album was a big success, reaching #6 on the “Billboard” 200 chart and #2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It went 3× Platinum in the U.S., Platinum in Canada, and Gold in Australia.
