At just 19, Xochitl Gomez has accomplished what many actors spend decades chasing. She’s portrayed a Marvel superhero, won a mirror ball trophy on Dancing with the Stars, and become a voice for Latina representation in Hollywood. The Los Angeles native isn’t just another young actress trying to make it big. She’s actively changing the landscape for who gets to be a hero on screen.
Biography
Xochitl Fiona Gomez-Deines was born on April 29, 2006, in Los Angeles, California. Her first name, which means “flower” in Nahuatl, links to her Mexican heritage. Both parents are of Mexican descent; her father emigrated from Morelos, Mexico, where he later worked in construction. Her mother, born and raised in Los Angeles, previously worked as a set decorator in the film industry before dedicating herself to supporting Xochitl’s rising career.
Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household in Echo Park after spending her early years in Hollywood, Gomez lived what she describes as existing “in both worlds.”
As an only child surrounded by Mexican culture through family, friends, and community, she developed a strong sense of identity that now informs her work.
Her path to stardom began at the age of five, when her mother enrolled her in musical theatre classes. Playing one of Ariel’s sisters in a local production of The Little Mermaid sparked something in young Xochitl. By the age of 12, she’d already performed in 22 full-length musicals.
The turning point came at the age of 10, when Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games inspired her to pursue a career in acting. What followed was an intense period of auditioning, sometimes four or five times daily after school. Her mother drove her across Los Angeles, and the exhaustion was so real. Casting directors often sought actors who resembled established stars, making it particularly challenging for newcomers to break through.
To strengthen her chances, she began martial arts training at age 11, working toward her black belt. This decision would later prove crucial when Marvel came calling. She also manages dyslexia, which requires her to review scripts multiple times to grasp the scenes fully. Rather than holding her back, this challenge taught her discipline and attention to detail that enhance her craft. She graduated from Oak Park Independent School in May 2024.
Career
Gomez’s professional breakthrough began to build momentum in 2018. She made her television debut on Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home and was selected for the Sundance Institute’s Director’s Lab, where she worked alongside Anthony Mackie. These opportunities led to her first significant role as Dawn Schafer in Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club, which premiered in July 2020.
The Baby-Sitters Club changed everything. Netflix reimagined the originally blonde, blue-eyed Dawn as Latina, allowing Gomez to bring authentic representation to the character. Entertainment Weekly praised her delivery of the character’s social justice dialogue with “heartfelt frankness,” and she won a Young Entertainer Award. Latina girls began approaching her, sharing how they finally saw someone who looked like them on television. That validation deepened her commitment to representation in ways she hadn’t expected.
But February 2020 brought her career-defining moment when she auditioned for Marvel Studios. The role of America Chavez was written for an 18-year-old, but after her audition, Marvel rewrote the character as a younger teenager specifically for her. She spent six months in intensive kickboxing and stunt training before receiving a callback. After screen testing with Benedict Cumberbatch in London, she was cast within two days.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premiered in May 2022, making the then-16-year-old one of the youngest actors to portray a superhero in the MCU. Her portrayal of the multiverse-travelling, portal-creating hero earned critical praise for bringing “impressive warmth and feeling” to the role. The film grossed over $955 million worldwide, launching Gomez into a new level of recognition. She earned nominations for the MTV Movie and TV Awards and Saturn Awards, and was featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in 2022.
In fall 2023, Gomez joined Season 32 of Dancing with the Stars as the youngest contestant at 17 years old. Partnered with Valentin Chmerkovskiy, she faced unique challenges, including mandatory days off from rehearsal due to minor labour laws. Despite having one less practice day than adult competitors, she dominated the competition. Her salsa earned comparisons to Rita Moreno, and she finished with a perfect score of 120 out of 120. On December 5, 2023, she won the inaugural Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy, then joined the Dancing with the Stars Live tour in early 2024.
As of November 2025, she’s currently appearing in CBS’s Boston Blue, a Blue Bloods spinoff that premiered in October 2025. She’s also filming No Te Olvides, a musical film in which she plays Maria, marking her return to her musical theatre roots in a feature film. She’ll voice Gabby in Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s The Cat in the Hat, releasing November 6, 2026, alongside Bill Hader and Quinta Brunson.
Most exciting for Marvel fans? Multiple reports and her carefully worded interviews strongly suggest she’ll reprise her role as America Chavez in Avengers: Doomsday (December 2026) and potentially Avengers: Secret Wars (December 2027).
Personal Life
Despite her public profile, Gomez maintains a notably private personal life. As of November 2025, she’s not publicly dating anyone. At 19, she has stated that her focus remains on personal and professional growth. In February 2024, she directly addressed fan speculation by confirming she’s not dating actor Brady Noon.
Outside acting, she pursues diverse interests. She’s an accomplished martial artist who performed her own skateboarding stunts in Doctor Strange. Her Dancing with the Stars victory dance skills have been honed since childhood. She also enjoys thrifting for vintage fashion, photography, travelling, and creating TikTok content that ranges from dance challenges to comedy sketches with friends.
She participated in the 2017 Women’s March at the age of 10 and has continued to march in support of Black Lives Matter. She consistently uses her platform to advocate for diversity in entertainment, LGBTQ+ rights (a significant cause, given that America Chavez is Marvel’s first LGBTQ+ superhero), and mental health awareness. She’s spoken openly about her dyslexia to help others facing similar challenges.
In February 2024, she was named Chief Style Officer for Social Collision, a brand under Hot Topic, where she designs four seasonal fashion collections annually.
Net Worth
As of November 2025, Xochitl Gomez’s estimated net worth ranges between $1 million and $1.5 million according to consensus across multiple entertainment finance sources. Some estimates reach as high as $3 million, although the lower range appears to be the most reliable based on current earnings. For a 19-year-old actress, this substantial achievement marks a significant milestone with considerable growth potential ahead.
Her income streams are notably diversified. Acting remains the primary source, with significant earnings from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (where young Marvel supporting actors typically earn $200,000 to $500,000 plus potential back-end participation), Dancing with the Stars (celebrities earn $125,000 to $295,000 base salary with winner bonuses), The Baby-Sitters Club, and ongoing work including Boston Blue.
Brand partnerships significantly boost her earnings. In 2024, Adidas named her a global brand ambassador for its Sportswear category. This multi-million-dollar deal positions her as the face of the brand for a young, diverse demographic. Her role as Chief Style Officer at Hot Topic’s Social Collision provides both income and creative control.
Social media also generates substantial revenue. With 3 million Instagram followers, she can command estimated monthly earnings between $9,900 and $13,600 from sponsored content, potentially earning $119,000 to $163,000 annually from Instagram alone. Her massive TikTok following of 8.2 million amplifies these opportunities.
Industry experts project that her net worth could reach $3 million or higher by 2030 as her career continues to grow.
