Coby Bell is navigating the beautiful chaos of raising two sets of twins with his wife Aviss Pinkney-Bell. Their four children span two generations of twins: older daughters Serrae and Jaena, now 21-year-old college seniors, and younger twins Eli and Quinn, who recently turned 17.
Coby Bell is best known for his roles as Tyrone “Ty” Davis Jr. in NBC’s Third Watch and Jason Pitts in BET’s comedy-drama The Game.
Coby married Aviss Pinkney-Bell on June 9, 2001. Aviss has built a career in behavioural psychology and autism therapy, and currently serves as a Clinical Supervisor at The Autism Collaborative Group.
The Bell household welcomed twins not once, but twice. First came daughters Serrae and Jaena on June 21, 2003, then five years later, fraternal twins Quinn and Eli arrived on December 2, 2008. Both sets were born at Long Beach Memorial Hospital in California. Coby has joked about the “double duty” whilst consistently describing fatherhood as his most outstanding achievement.
Serrae Bell, 22
Serrae Bell, born June 21, 2003, is now a 22-year-old college senior attending San Francisco State University, her mother’s alma mater. She’s majoring in Journalism with a minor in Race and Resistance Studies, showing an evident passion for storytelling and social issues.
Since June 2024, Serrae has served as Managing Editor of Xpress Magazine, the university’s student-run publication. This leadership role gives her hands-on experience in editorial management while she completes her degree. She’s also an active athlete, playing club volleyball at SFSU, continuing the volleyball tradition she established alongside her twin sister at St. Anthony High School in Long Beach, California.
Serrae maintains a LinkedIn presence but keeps her personal life largely private.
Jaena Bell, 22
Jaena Bell, Serrae’s twin sister, has taken a distinctly athletic path. She’s currently a senior at San José State University, where she plays beach volleyball and majors in Communications.
Jaena’s collegiate career began at Louisiana Tech University from 2021 to 2023, where she played indoor volleyball as a right-side hitter and earned Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medalist honours in 2022. She transferred to SJSU to pursue beach volleyball, where she’s compiled a career record of 9-12.
Beyond athletics, Jaena serves as President of the Black Student Athlete Association, advocating for her peers and fostering community among student-athletes of colour. She received the prestigious Dr Harry Edward Social Activism Award at the 2025 Sammy Awards, highlighting her impact beyond volleyball.
Jaena maintains Instagram (@jaenabell) and Twitter (@jjaenaaa) accounts, though she keeps both relatively private. Like her sister, she attended St. Anthony High School in Long Beach, where both twins were standout volleyball players.
Eli Bell, 17
Eli Bell, born December 2, 2008, is the Bell family’s only son and the younger of the fraternal twins. When he arrived at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, he weighed 6 lbs, 13 oz, and was born one minute after his twin sister, Quinn.
Now 17 years old, Eli is the sole male among four children. Coby has mentioned developing a “special bond” with Eli because of this dynamic. Details about Eli’s current schooling and interests remain private, as the family has deliberately kept the younger twins out of the public eye. As he approaches his final years of secondary school, it remains to be seen whether he’ll follow his sisters into collegiate athletics or pursue different interests.
Quinn Bell, 17
Quinn Bell, also born December 2, 2008, is the younger daughter and Eli’s fraternal twin. She arrived first that day, weighing 5 lbs, 12 oz. Now 17 years old, Quinn is living her teenage years away from the Hollywood spotlight.
Like her brother, Quinn’s life has been kept deliberately private by her parents. The family hasn’t shared details about her schooling or interests. Her older sisters both excelled at volleyball, and her mother was a competitive triple jumper, so that athletics might be in Quinn’s blood as well.
Coby Bell established firm boundaries around his career, including a non-negotiable rule about taking at least one day off every weekend when filming away from home. During his years on Burn Notice and The Game, he regularly flew home to maintain his Sunday tradition of taking all four children to a Long Beach restaurant.
“There’s no way I can go more than five days without seeing them or being with them,” Bell has said. He describes fatherhood as challenging but rewarding: “Everything I do is for my kids.” He’s also noted one advantage of having two sets of twins: “They play together and keep each other occupied.”
Coby credits his wife, Aviss, with her organisational skills in managing their four-child household. Beyond his own family, he’s maintained a mentorship relationship with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America since 1998-99.
