In the latest chapter of hip-hop’s most bitter rivalries, former Death Row Records artists are engaging in a heated war of words that’s giving fans front-row seats to 90s rap drama decades in the making.
Suge Knight, currently serving time behind bars, has been particularly chatty lately, targeting several former associates including Tyrin Turner, Snoop Dogg, Diddy, and most recently, Dogg Pound rapper Daz Dillinger. During an interview with The Art Of Dialogue, Knight didn’t hold back, calling Daz “weak” and claiming he never stood up for himself. Knight even made some eyebrow-raising claims about getting intimate with Daz’s wife and suggested Daz struggled with thoughts of self-harm.
But in an interesting twist, Knight also expressed sympathy for Dillinger, admitting he shouldn’t have treated the rapper the way he did. Knight referred to Daz as one of his “projects” – someone he gave an opportunity to, but ultimately feels he damaged Daz’s confidence in the process.
Daz, however, wasn’t about to take these comments lying down! In a fiery response video, Dillinger unleashed a verbal beatdown on his former boss, directly addressing Knight’s claim that Tupac Shakur had disrespected him.
“You said that Tupac and I had an issue, that he spit in my face three times. I wish a MF would spit in my face!” Daz declared, insisting that Tupac never disrespected him and accusing Knight of fabricating stories from his prison cell.
The Dogg Pound rapper then took aim at Knight’s finances, mocking, “You had $600 million, now you’re broke as a joke.” Daz even alleged that Knight spent between $300,000 and $400,000 on Daz’s ex-girlfriend, though Dillinger claimed he ultimately got some of that money back through her.
In what might be the most amusing part of this rap beef, Daz concluded with a challenge: “When you get out of jail, I will be waiting for you ’cause I want that one-on-one.” Considering Knight isn’t expected to be released until he’s around 70 years old, with Daz likely in his 60s by then, this potential showdown might look more like a senior center scuffle than a street fight!
Knight remains incarcerated for a voluntary manslaughter conviction related to a 2015 hit-and-run incident, but that hasn’t stopped him from stirring the pot with various former associates. As one commentator aptly noted about the situation: “It just hit me, the gangsters are doing more talking than anybody.”
Who said retirement age meant slowing down in the world of hip-hop beef?
