Sean Hannity Biography

Sean Patrick Hannity was born in New York City, New York, USA, on December 30, 1961. Although he was born in New York, Sean’s familial roots extend back to Ireland, as his grandparents journeyed to the United States.

His father “Hugh Hannity” played a part in World War II as a veteran and family court officer. On the other hand, his mother “Lillian Hannity,” held jobs as a stenographer and a corrections officer at a jail county.

Still talking about family, Sean is the last-born child and only son of his parents. He has three elder sisters: Therese Grisham, Mary-Jo Kuchta, and Coleen Hannity.

Educational Background

Sean Hannity went to Sacred Heart Seminary in Hempstead, New York, and later to St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary in Uniondale, New York.

He also tried out New York University and Adelphi University, but he didn’t finish his studies at either of them.

Professional Career

Sean Hannity’s career started back in 1982 when he began a house-painting business. Later, he worked as a building contractor in California.

In 1989, he hosted his first talk show at UC Santa Barbara, facing a bit of trouble over discussions about gay and lesbian rights. Despite a temporary cancellation, the show resumed after support from the American Civil Liberties Union.

Sean then promoted himself as the “most talked about college radio host in America” and landed roles in radio stations like WVNN in Alabama and WGST in Atlanta.

His big break came in 1996 when Roger Ailes hired him to host “Hannity & Colmes,” a TV program on Fox News. Afterward, he moved to WABC in New York and eventually secured a significant slot on WOR in New York City.

His radio show, “The Sean Hannity Show,” gained national attention in 2001, reaching millions of listeners. Hannity consistently ranks high in Talkers Magazine’s list and Forbes’ “Celebrity 100.”

On television, he co-hosted “Hannity & Colmes” until 2009 and later took over the time slot with his show, “Hannity.” He also created “Hannity’s America,” a Sunday night show on Fox News starting in 2007.

In January 2024, Sean left New York to broadcast full-time from Florida, where he had wanted to relocate for years.

Hannity is also known for his generally conservative views and occasionally expressed support for birth control, leading to disagreements with pro-life guests.

Sean Hannity Publications As An Author

Sean Hannity isn’t just a talk show host; he is also an author with four books.

His first book, “Let Freedom Ring: Winning the War of Liberty over Liberalism,” hit the shelves in 2002.

Following its success, he penned “Deliver Us from Evil: Defeating Terrorism, Despotism, and Liberalism” in 2004. Both of these books became bestsellers, according to the New York Times.

Even with a hectic schedule, Hannity managed to write these books, revealing that he often dictated his thoughts into a tape recorder while driving to his radio show.

In 2010, he added another accomplishment to his writing career with “Conservative Victory: Defeating Obama’s Radical Agenda,” published by HarperCollins. This book, too, made it to the New York Times Bestseller list.

Hannity continued his writing journey without stopping there, presenting “Live Free or Die: America (and the World) on the Brink” in 2020.

Personal Life

Sean Hannity’s personal life has had some changes over the years. He first met Jill Rhodes in 1991 while working at WVNN in Huntsville, Alabama, and they got married in 1993.

Hannity and Rhodes are parents to two children, Patrick (born 1998) and Merri (born 2001), who graduated from Cold Spring Harbor High School.

Patrick went on to attend Wake Forest University and played tennis. Merri, a talented tennis player, is currently a student at The University of Michigan.

Unfortunately, Hannity and Rhodes are no longer together. In June 2020, they shared that they had divorced the previous year after being separated for quite some time.

Following the divorce, Hannity started dating Ainsley Earhardt, his colleague at Fox News. They even attended events together, like a wedding at Trump National Golf Course in New Jersey.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Earhardt hosted her Fox & Friends program from a studio in the basement of Hannity’s Long Island mansion.

Hannity has also been open about his interest in martial arts, holding a brown belt and dedicating four days a week to training. Additionally, he mentioned back in 2014 that he has been carrying a weapon for “more than half [his] adult life.”
