How Well Do You Know Sports Stars?
Stars in this quiz
Brush up before you play, or read their stories after.
Ten questions stand between you and bragging rights over every mate who claims they know sport. This quiz pulls from a deep bank covering golf, tennis, football, basketball, athletics, climbing and the NFL, so no two rounds feel the same. Score well and you'll walk away with a title worth sharing.
What the Sports Stars Quiz Covers
Every play serves up 10 random questions drawn from a much bigger bank. Some are easy warm ups, some sit in the middle, and a few are genuinely hard. That mix keeps things moving whether you're a casual fan or the person who reads every transfer rumour.
The questions stretch across several sports and several eras. One minute you're thinking about a World Cup final from the 1960s, the next you're on an NBA contract or a track final. You'll get facts about careers, early years, family, business moves and life away from the pitch.
At the end you get a score and a fun title that sums up how you did. You can share the result or send the quiz straight to a friend who thinks they'd beat you. Most people play twice, because the second round throws up questions the first one didn't.
The Stars and the Scene Behind the Questions
Golf brings Tiger Woods, who was putting on national television before most kids can ride a bike. He left Stanford after two years and turned professional in 1996 with a simple greeting to the world. He finished with 82 PGA Tour victories and 15 major championships, and Forbes certified him as a billionaire in 2022.
Tennis is well represented. Andre Agassi turned pro at 16 with long hair, earrings and denim shorts, then won eight major titles and an Olympic gold in Atlanta. Steffi Graf ruled the women's game from the mid 1980s into the late 1990s and later built a second life as an investor. Taylor Fritz carries the modern American flag, having become the world's top ranked junior boy in 2014, a spot only Andy Roddick and David Young had held before him among Americans.
American football and basketball get plenty of airtime. Travis Kelce has three Super Bowl rings, 11 Pro Bowl selections and a podcast empire he runs with his brother Jason Kelce, the retired Eagles centre and dad to four daughters. Patrick Mahomes grew up around professional sport, since his father pitched in Major League Baseball, and he won NFL MVP in 2018 before taking Super Bowl LIV MVP honours. Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Greek Freak, was born in Athens to Nigerian parents and holds both passports proudly. Aaron Rodgers shows up too, a Super Bowl winner and league MVP with endorsement deals ranging from insurance to pizza.
Track, climbing and football round it out. Athing Mu became the youngest woman ever to win Olympic and world titles in a single track and field event, and she says she wants to buy a farm one day. Keely Hodgkinson came up in Greater Manchester in a sporty family, and her dad once ran the London Marathon. Zharnel Hughes was born in Anguilla, trained in Jamaica under the eye of Usain Bolt's camp, and took bronze at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. Alex Honnold started climbing gym walls at five and later lived in a van while chasing routes across California. Geoff Hurst is the England striker who scored a hat-trick in the 1966 World Cup final.
Tips to Score Well on the Quiz
Read the whole question before you pick. A few of them turn on a small detail like a year, a round number or a city, and rushing costs easy points. The medium ones especially reward a second look.
Think about beginnings, not just trophies. Plenty of questions deal with schools, colleges, first clubs and early jobs, because that's where these careers actually started. If you only know the highlight reel, you'll drop marks.
Don't overthink the true or false ones. They're usually built around a fact that either sounds odd and is true, or sounds neat and isn't. Trust what you've actually read rather than what feels tidy.
Play more than once. Since the questions come from a bigger bank, a second run gives you fresh ground and a better shot at a top title.
