Biography

Mulamwah was born David Oyando on May 28, 1993, in Butere, Kakamega County. His family home is in Bikeke, near Kitale in Trans Nzoia County. He is Luhya and often plays up his western Kenya roots in his comedy.

He lost his biological mother when he was young. His father, a clinical officer, raised him, and Pulse Kenya reported that his stepmother raised him as her own. She died during surgery at a hospital in Kitale on October 13, 2024, and he paid tribute to her online.

Mulamwah went to St. Anthony’s Boys High School in Kitale. In an interview on Dr Ofweneke’s Thursday Night Live show on KTN, he said he scored an A minus in his final exams and was then advised to study nursing. He earned a nursing degree at Moi University in Eldoret, graduated in 2018, and did his internship at Kenyatta National Hospital. He told KTN he chose Kenyatta so he could live in Nairobi and attend comedy auditions.

Career

Mulamwah began making comedy clips on his phone while still a student. In the KTN interview, he said his first online video was a parody of a Chris Brown song that got only about 10 views at first. Then well-known Kenyans, including musician Jua Cali, shared it without crediting him, and it spread. He started tagging himself as Mulamwah, a name that grew out of a nickname based on the rapper Kendrick Lamar.

His short skits about village life, high school and everyday Kenyan mishaps grew fast on Instagram, WhatsApp and Twitter. Pulse Kenya reported that a February 2019 skit about high school students went viral on his Instagram page. By June 2019, he told KTN, a single tweet of his had passed 1.4 million impressions.

Getting onto the Churchill Show took much longer. According to Citizen Digital, he travelled from Eldoret to Nairobi every Monday for four years to audition, then went home the next day. He said he failed every audition and once sold his phone to pay for transport. His first Churchill Show performance was at Kenya Cinema in Nairobi. Fellow comedian Eddie Butita also rose through the same show.

On April 13, 2020, Mulamwah burned his signature shirt and announced he was quitting comedy because of online bullying. He said his girlfriend at the time, Carol Sonnie, had lost their three-month pregnancy after stress from trolls. Akothee told him quitting would let his critics win, and Jalang’o and Dr Ofweneke also urged him to keep going, according to Capital FM. He later came back to comedy and content creation.

In May 2022, he joined Milele FM and co-hosted the afternoon show Konki with Meshack Jillani. He left in 2023 over a contract dispute and returned a week later. On February 25, 2025, he announced he was leaving again after contract talks failed, and said a YouTube show and a stand-up special were coming. His April 2025 comedy show followed soon after.

Mulamwah has also gone through quiet phases online. In April 2026, K24 Digital reported that he deleted every post from his Instagram and TikTok accounts without explanation. He posted on Facebook a few days later. In June 2026, Streamlinefeed reported that he plans to step back from social media once his Kitale home is finished.

Businesses and Investments

Mulamwah bought land in Trans Nzoia County in July 2021 and has been building a two-storey mansion in Kitale since then. He said in 2022 that it would cost about KSh 10 million. By June 2026, news reports put the cost above KSh 20 million, or about $155,000.

He also runs a boda boda business in Kitale, where friends ride the motorbikes and pay him daily. Biznakenya reported that he started with about 15 bikes earning roughly KSh 300 each per day. According to Breaking Kenya News, he told the Over 1M Podcast in June 2026 that he once owned more than 40 bikes and is now selling them to the riders. He also farms wheat in Uasin Gishu County, which he has called a side hustle.

In March 2024, he bought a Mercedes-Benz E250, his first car, and posted a bank balance of KSh 66.17 afterwards. On his 32nd birthday in May 2025, he upgraded to a Mercedes-Benz S550. He said he used the money he had saved for his wedding to Ruth K.

Breaking Kenya News also reported that he pays himself a fixed salary of KSh 150,000 a month, no matter how much the business earns. He said he started his career earning about KSh 30,000 a month.

Relationships and Children

Mulamwah’s first widely known relationship was with content creator Carol Sonnie. They were together for about two years. Their daughter, Keilah, was born in September 2021, and the couple split soon after.

He then dated content creator Ruth K for nearly four years. They held an introduction ceremony at her family home in October 2023, which Ruth K later said was not a full ruracio, the formal dowry ceremony. Their son was born on February 10, 2024, and the family often calls him Kalamwah.

Mulamwah proposed in February 2025, and Ruth K announced the engagement on February 17. Weeks later, in April 2025, Mulamwah posted that the two had decided to part ways, and he called the decision mutual. Neither of them gave a reason at the time.

His relationships with both mothers have since settled into co-parenting. Photos from December 14, 2025, showed Mulamwah and Sonnie relaxed together with Keilah, according to Streamlinefeed. Sonnie said on a YouTube show the next day that she let Mulamwah see Keilah because their daughter is not part of their differences.

In January 2026, Ruth K asked the public for help after her son cried for nearly eight days and doctors found no illness, according to TNX Africa. She took him to Kitale to be with his father, and Mulamwah later posted a video saying the boy was fine. In February 2026, he shared photos with both Keilah and his son and called them his world.

Mulamwah also has an older daughter. In July 2024, he introduced Lisa on Instagram as his firstborn, aged seven turning eight, and said her mother had died some time earlier. He has shared little else about her.

Weeks after the Ruth K split, Mulamwah told radio host Ankali Ray he had started seeing a Ugandan woman. In September 2025, content creator Emillianah Mwikali was linked to him, and she said publicly that she was single and not dating anyone. In June 2026, Mpasho reported that Mulamwah said the two are just friends.

Controversies

In April 2022, Mulamwah posted that Keilah was not his child. He later explained that he did it under pressure. He said Sonnie had blocked him from seeing the baby and had painted him as a deadbeat father in an interview. Sonnie has said she kept Keilah away from him for a while to see whether he had stopped the public drama.

In April 2025, Oga Obinna said he missed Mulamwah’s comedy show because Mulamwah had blocked him on Instagram and never invited him. Mulamwah said he blocked Obinna after seeing a video in which Obinna and Dem wa Facebook discussed a fan’s comment about his son. K24 reported that Obinna walked out of a radio interview on April 25 when asked about the row, and that Mulamwah had also blocked other creators. Mulamwah has since said the block was about values and not a fight, according to Ghafla.

On June 19, 2025, Mulamwah and Ruth K traded accusations online. Ruth K said he was disrespectful, reversed a KSh 5,000 payment he had sent her, and shared her photos without permission. Mulamwah blamed her for the breakup and accused her of spreading false rumours about him. Both of them apologised publicly the next day, according to The Star.

Net Worth

Mulamwah’s net worth is estimated at KSh 20 million to 40 million, or about $155,000 to $310,000. The biggest piece is property, led by the Kitale mansion, which is expected to cost more than KSh 20 million (about $155,000), and the land it sits on. His Mercedes-Benz S550, his wheat farming and the boda boda business add to that.

Income comes from YouTube and Facebook content earnings, brand deals, stand-up shows and scriptwriting. Streamlinefeed reported in June 2026 that these bring in KSh 600,000 to 700,000 a month. He takes a fixed KSh 150,000 salary from that, and by his own account he saves or reinvests the rest.
